Zinc Poisoning in Denture Creams

Attorney Scott Wm Weinstein

Denture adhesive creams, which are used to hold dentures in place have recently been linked to zinc poisoning.  People with ill-fitting dentures are at an elevated risk for zinc poisoning because they often use a lot of cream in order to secure their dentures.  Zinc poisoning can result in permanent and debilitating health problems if not detected and treated early.  The symptoms of zinc poisoning include unexplained weakness, numbness and loss of sensation.  If you use a denture cream that contains zinc, such as some types of Fixodent and some kinds of Polygrip, and you are experience any of these symptoms, you should speak to a doctor as soon as possible.  A blood test can determine whether you are suffering from zinc poisoning.
