When we talk about retaliation it’s not always the same kind of thing. It varies from situation to situation. For example some people find that they are retaliated against pretty openly. Their job is changed, they are fired, they are demoted, they are laterally transferred where they have fewer opportunities then they had before.
Work is taken away from them, their office may be changed to a less attractive location, all of these things are suspiciously related to whatever it is that they may have complained about. But sometimes there’s harassment retaliation or retaliatory harassment and this isn’t necessarily where the employer changes the terms or conditions of employment. They just make you miserable.
They act in a hostile intimidating or abusive fashion and we all know that the reason they are doing it is because you made your complaint or harassment of discrimination in the first place. And if you do, you have a right to counsel, you have a right to bring an action in court, you have a right to damages.
