Whenever you are charged with a motor vehicle violation, consequences stem from that:  Motor Vehicle points, insurance increases.  So even if you are in fact guilty of the offense charge, an attorney can go into court, speak with the police officer, speak with the prosecutor and enter into a negotiation.  It is called a plea bargain to get those points reduced.

Many times clients come into my office and I tell them although they violated the law maybe speeding 20 above the speed limit, I might be able to work out something where they reduce the points from four to two points all the way down to zero.  On the day of court, I speak with the prosecutor.  The prosecutor normally has me go speak with the police officer and if we can come to an agreement, they put that before the judge.  You might pay a little bit higher fine, but you save points at Motor Vehicles and most importantly, the insurance rates will not go up.
