There are a number of questions that you should ask an attorney before you hire him or her to work on your personal injury case.
The first question you should ask is: How many years have they been practicing personal injury law?
The second question is: What is the number of personal injury cases that they handle each year, approximately?
The third question is: What are the specific types of personal injury cases that they have handled, and what is their primary focus, are they auto cases, medical malpractice cases or so forth?
The fourth question is: What is the number of cases that go to trial in any particular year? The ease that with a lawyer is willing to go to trial makes that lawyer more special in working on your case.
The fifth question is: Who will be working on your case? Is it the attorney that you’re talking to, or is it going to be someone who doesn't have much experience in personal injury cases?
The sixth question is: Will the attorney keep you updated on the progress of your case? In my office, what we do in every case is we send our clients copies of documents, every single document that either goes out of the office or comes into the office related to their case.
The seventh question is: What associations is that particular attorney a part of? The American Trial Lawyers Association, which is now the American Association for Justice, the trial lawyers association of their particular state. Are they associated with particular practice groups of the American Association for Justice? What are those practice groups, such as trucking, medical malpractice, social security, motor vehicle and so forth?
The eighth question is: Have they written articles that you can read, or do they have a blog that you can read? In our office, we write a blog, at least an article on a weekly basis, and then publish those articles on the Internet.
