When we talk about the law against discrimination we’re talking about a statute that I happen to have a great deal of respect for. The law against discrimination and the Conscientious Employee Protection Act as a pair form two of the most progressive, far reaching, open ended employment protection laws in the country.
Only a few states have laws as good or better and what we mean by public policy is this. In our state your employment rights are your civil rights, you have a right to be free of ethnic, racial, sexual orientation, gender orientation, disability based harassment and many other categories. You have a right to be free of discrimination for those reasons as well. You have a right to be protected as a “whistle blower”. If these rights are violated it cuts to the very heart of what it means to be an American, it cuts to the very heart of what it means to be a member of a free society.
And is naked power and aggression against the worker; that’s something in New Jersey we frown on and that’s why we have these wonderful laws that protect our employees so thoroughly.
