Negligence and Neglect in Nursing Homes

Attorney Michael Shepard

Negligent injuries are by far the most common injury we see in nursing home and rehabilitation cases.  And those typically result from someone in the nursing home neglecting a patient, not intentionally harming them but by either not providing the care that that patient required.

By not changing the sheets, by not moving the patient around, by not providing the proper nutrition or enough nutrition, we see injuries that range from decubitus ulcers which are also known as bed sores to things like a patient falling down because no one is paying attention that a patient is now out of bed and moving, to elopement which is when a patient actually gets off the premises, walks straight out the door without someone at the nursing home either stopping them or paying attention to help them back to their room, or situations in which the patient is having trouble eating and there is no one there to notice or to pay attention that the patient has not eaten their dinner and this has gone on for a few days and now we are getting into a situation in which they are malnourished.

They are dehydrated and injuries result from that.  And those are always in which a nursing home or a rehabilitation facility is negligent in causing the injuries to one of its patients.
