Hi, I’m Tony Castelli, a Cincinnati motorcycle attorney.  My message today is the best insurance that you can buy to protect yourself if you’re in an accident caused by the fault of another.  

Now, we all know about liability insurance.  That protects you or pays on your behalf, if you injure someone else.  But what if someone injures you and has very little or no insurance?  Where are you going to turn to get compensated?  That's where underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage comes in.  That's what you purchase from your own insurance company, and it pays you in the event that the person who caused your injury had very little insurance.  

So let’s say the person that caused your injury had the minimum limits, $12,500.00.  Heck, if they put you in the emergency room and you have some significant follow up, that's going to eat that up.  And if you’ve got a real serious injury, you’re going to have much more compensation that you’re entitled to.  

That's where your underinsured motorist coverage comes in.  You want to at least purchase $100,000.00 of coverage or more.  It’s not that expensive.  And how you get paid is the difference between the $12,500.00 and if you purchased $100,000.00, you would be entitled to $87,500.00, if your injury merited it.

So don't be pennywise and pound foolish, as the saying goes.  Buy an adequate amount of underinsured motorist coverage to protect you in case someone causes you an injury who has no insurance or very little insurance.
