Medical Malpractice: Surgical Error Mistakes

The term “Surgical Error” is a real broad term. It can apply to any variety of any different type of cases; it could be a mistake on the part of the surgeon in selecting the procedure. It could be a mistake on the part of the surgeon with respect to the technique or the intraoperative of what he or she does.

It could be a mistake on the part of the surgical staff or the surgical team which results in a foreign body being left inside of the patient. There are surgeries performed; there are back surgeries, brain surgeries, cardio-thoracic surgeries, abdominal surgeries. There are a whole host of different types of surgeries and the surgeon is required to perform the surgery to a certain standard of medical practice.

And if he or she fails to comply with medical practice and has an improper technique there can be any host of different injuries to the patient. By way of example if there’s an interabdominal surgery some type of surgery on the abdomen and there’s a number of different surgeries that take place, there are structures and organs within the abdomen that the surgeon needs to avoid damaging.

A surgeon with an improper technique could cause injury to the bowels the kidneys or the ureter; there are different injuries that can occur as a result of an abdominal injury. The surgeon has obligation to use proper technique and to avoid causing these types of injuries.
