If I have one piece of advice for clients or perspective clients the advice is this.  Always, always have an attorney assisting you with respect to your criminal problem.  You simply cannot go wrong in having an attorney rather than trying to handle the situation by yourself.  Many people, very intelligent people, think they will help themselves by making statements to law enforcement by cooperating fully.  That may be true, but only so with the guidance of an attorney to understand the potential pitfalls and potential problems with your conduct, therefore it is always best to hire a very good, qualified criminal attorney to assist you in being the voice, your voice, with the government to explain your situation and to explain to you why it may or may not be in your interest to cooperate.  It is always in your interest to hire an attorney to answer questions before those questions turn into problems.  It is very difficult to unring a bell, and the role of the criminal attorney is to make sure that the bell is never rung.  You do so by hiring the attorney before you are charges and or before information is in the hands of law enforcement that cannot be undone.
