Parents have an obligation to contribute to the support of their children and that obligation is one that both parents have although their respective obligations are obviously going to differ depending on what their income is. But this obligation continues until the children are emancipated. Children are emancipated at different times. Typically they’re emancipated when they reach the age of 18 and have graduated from high school, but emancipation is often delayed while a child finishes a higher education, such as four years of college, trade school or something of that nature. That’s when the obligation technically ends.
